For rich and the poor ones the world is so wrong...
As soon as they arrived home, Kaiba locked himself in his office. There was no
way anything else was going to happen to him today. Not even the frantic
knocking of Mokuba would bring him out of the room; he was determined to sit
there, staring at his computer screen until the first of January. Therefore, it
came as a surprise, even to himself, when he exited sometime before midnight.
The door swung open and Kaiba stepped out of the room, careful to miss stepping
on Mokuba who lay curled up on the floor asleep in the doorway. Hunger had
overridden all other thoughts, as his mini-fridge in the office was empty and so
he trudged through the hall to the kitchen. Making himself a sandwich and
grabbing a drink, Kaiba left the kitchen returning to his self-imposed exile.
He made a quick stop first, running upstairs to bring down a blanket to cover
his brother up with--no need to let the boy catch a cold from sleeping on the
floor. There was no way he was got to try and to move him as Mokuba tended to be
a light sleeper. Tucking the blanket around the sleeping form, a distinct sound
caught his ears.
Outside, the guard dogs were barking fiercely. Of course security was ignoring
it, so it had to be something important. Kaiba stepped into his office, made a
quick grab for the gun he kept close in his briefcase for odd situations and
then stormed out the front door. Moonlight glistened upon the newly fallen snow
as Kaiba’s eyes darted quickly across the lawn looking for the animals and
whatever held their attention. It didn’t take long to find them, the dogs
surrounded a lone figure poised precariously atop the mailbox.
No fucking way!
He pointed the gun toward the figure before speaking clearly, “Step down from
there and give me one reason not to feed you to the dogs.”
“Mokuba wouldn’t like it?” the blond answered as he nearly fell on top of Kaiba
while dropping to the ground.
“What the hell are you doing out here?” Kaiba asked, suspicious of the blond
considering the odd things that had happened over the last few days.
“Dropping off a Christmas present.”
He didn’t like the sound of that, why would Jounouchi be dropping off a present
at his house? “For?”
“Mokuba?”
That he really didn’t like. “Why are you bringing presents to MY brother at this
time of night?”
“Shizuka asked me to?”
“Okay. If that is so, why do you keep answering my questions with your answers
as questions? Let me see.” Kaiba grabbed the box out of Jounouchi’s hand,
ripping the paper that covered it. As the lid to the box opened, Kaiba’s eyes
widened. “Your sister, bought my brother, a set of kissing dragons? A Blue Eyes
White Dragon and Red Eyes Black Dragon set of kissing dragons.”
He had the blond cornered, backed against the mailbox, gun still in hand, the
dogs just waiting for the signal to attack and they both knew it. “What is the
meaning of this?”
“Okay so it’s not for Mokuba.” Kaiba just stared at him waiting for the rest of
the explanation. “It was for you.”
“Your sister bought me a set of kissing dragons?” Okay now he was confused. As
far as Kaiba knew the girl had only seen him during Battle City and even then
was more interested in her brother.
He had to strain to hear the blond’s response and even then asked him to repeat
the garbled answer.
“No you idiot, I did.”
Now that was a shock; a pleasant shock but still a shock. “Would you like to
explain why?”
Instead of explaining, forgetting about the gun, the dogs and the fact they were
standing ankle deep in snow, Jounouchi kissed him. It would have been a nice
kiss--their first. It might have been something to recall later in life telling
others about, hell it might have been very nice if they hadn’t fallen back,
crashing into the snow in a pile. The dogs deciding they might need to save
their owner joined in the jumble. When they were able to get up, Kaiba having
shooed the dogs away, both boys who were now cold and wet walked toward the
house. Kaiba asked the other in--the least he could do was offer him something
hot, no sense in letting him get sick, and then not getting the explanation he
wanted.
They sat and talked the rest of the night. Kaiba asked if Jounouchi was the one
responsible for the other “presents” he had received for Christmas and received
a negative for reply. So they talked. About little siblings, duel monsters and
school. The fact that they had more in common than either previously thought and
the fact that they wanted to have more in common. All in all, it was a pleasant
and enjoyable night as far as Kaiba was concerned. But then came the morning.
"I saw Seto kissing Joey Claus. Standing by the fire on Christmas eve…" Mokuba's
voice could be heard throughout the house before he came into view, twirling
around in a mock version of the Nutcracker. They had forgotten about little eyes
that caught more than they needed to.
Both boys turned as one to look at the younger Kaiba, “Joey Claus?”
“Well, yeah. Jounouchi didn’t fit right. So does this mean you two are…well
something?”
Kaiba looked at the other, amber eyes glanced back at him leaving him the option
of answering. “Something? Maybe, we’ll just have to see.”
Dry again, Jounouchi left for home, wanting to spend some of the day with his
friends and family. Kaiba and Mokuba spent the rest of the day with Mokuba
opening presents and playing for hours on end. And at the end of the day, when
he finally got back to his room, Kaiba found an enveloped addressed to himself
on his bed.
Kaiba,
I know you didn’t enjoy the other wonderful, and thoughtful gifts I sent this
year but did you at least enjoy this last one?
Sorry the puppy came a few years later than you wanted it to. However, I’m sure
you’ll enjoy playing with him now more than you would have as a kid.
S. Claus
PS--don’t be too naughty with him, otherwise you won’t get anything next year.
Merry Christmas.
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now
Happy Christmas
